FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Which are the common variants of mint used for extracting mint isolates?

Menthol crystals, DMO and Rectified DMO, Menthone and Cis 3 Hexanol are manufactured from Mentha arvensis (Japanese mint, cornmint). Mentha Arvensis Oil has the highest % of L Menthol in it. Generally, Peppermint (mentha Piperita), Spearmint (menthe spicata) and mentha citrata are used to extract the essential oil from them, respectively. Menthofuran can be derived from Peppermint (Piperita) and L Carvone can be isolated from Spearmint (Spicata).

Where do menthol crystal manufacturers source their mint from?

100% of commercially grown Arvensis in the world is grown in India. Menthol Crystal Manufacturers source their mint from North Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. Produce from here is used to extract mint isolates, which is used extensively in the Oral care, Tobacco, pharma and flavour industries.

How are mint isolates extracted?

The process of mint isolate extraction begins from the source. The steam distillation of fresh mint produces the oil which is then transported to the factories. Here crystallization facilities and fractional distillation are used to extract mint isolates, depending on the requirements of the consumer.
