Nutmeg Whole
Obtained from the seeds of the ‘Myristica fragrant’ tree, the roots of this tropical spice can be traced back to Indonesia. It was once so precious that the Dutch waged wars for a monopoly over it. The ripe fruit splits open and is harvested; the seed is separated and then dried. The seed has a shiny appearance, a dark brown hue, and an oval shape. It has a distinct nutty taste with undertones of warmth and sweetness. It is fragrant with piney and citrusy notes. Nutmeg is said to have antioxidant, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties and could improve heart health, blood sugar levels, and mood.
