Mane Kancor Joins the Haritha Kerala Mission’s “Oru Thai Nadam” Initiative

As part of the Sustainability Month celebrations, Mane Kancor launched Ente Maram (My Tree), a hands-on initiative aimed at combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and strengthening environmental resilience.

Recognising that tree planting is one of the most effective ways to reduce carbon footprints and restore ecological balance, the initiative focused exclusively on endangered native species to prevent the irreversible loss of unique genetic resources. Mane Kancor has committed to planting a minimum of 500 endangered trees, beginning with the Ashoka tree (Saraca asoca), a species listed on the IUCN Red List which symbolises the importance of conserving threatened flora.

To foster a personal connection with nature, employees were invited to plant a sapling in honour of their loved ones. The initiative was formally launched through a collaboration with the “Oru Thai Nadam” (Let’s Plant a Sapling) campaign under the Kerala State Government’s Haritha Kerala Mission, as part of the “Pachathuruth” (Green Grove) initiative at Pothanikad Grama Panchayat. The project ensures structured maintenance and care for a minimum of three years through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

The inaugural event took place on Wednesday, 5 November 2025 and was inaugurated by Mr. Saji K. Varghese, President of Pothanikad Grama Panchayat (Local Self Government Department). Mr. Pratap Vallikadan, Senior Vice President – Business, Mane Kancor delivered the presidential address and planted the first Ashoka sapling.

Employees of Mane Kancor, along with members of Kudumbashree, the Harithakarma Mission, and the local community, actively participated in the tree planting activity. Encouraged by the positive response and measurable impact of this initiative, Mane Kancor plans to expand tree planting efforts across the surrounding areas of its facilities, further reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability, biodiversity conservation, and community greening.
