Thymol

Thymol (also known as 2-isopropyl-5-methylphenol, IPMP) is a natural monoterpene phenol derivative of cymene, C10H14O, isomeric with carvacrol, found in oil of Ajowan, Trachyspermum ammi. The product is obtained by the fractional distillation followed by the crystallisation of ajowan oil. The product is crystalline in nature and is colourless to reddish brown in colour. Thymol is used in mouth washes, cosmetic and flavouring applications.
