Anethole is an organic compound that is widely used as a flavouring substance. It is a derivative of phenylpropene, a type of aromatic compound that occurs widely in nature. It is obtained by fractionation followed by isomerization of Basil oil. The product is a free-flowing, colourless liquid, with a sweet, anise licorice, medicinal odour. It is used for flavouring and in oral care formulations
